2008 World Thinking Day
A community wide celebration of our diversity

World Thinking Day was a Huge Success!

On March 1, 2008 Golden Valley Council had over 5,000 people in the Fresno Convention Center Exhibit Hall taking part in our first annual council wide World Thinking Day. This year we had sixty-seven countries represented from the five WAGGGS World Regions: Canada, United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Australia, Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ethiopia, Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Iraq, Oman, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Morocco, Russia, Greece, Armenia, Poland, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, India, Mongolia, China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Micronesia, Laos, Philippines, Malaysia, Tonga, Polynesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, New Zealand and Thailand.

We are already planning for next years festivities and hope to make this event bigger and better than it already was! We also filled three bins of food (over 4,000lbs!) for the Community Food Bank helping them to fill their shelves a little more! We do want to send out a special Thank You to the people who worked so hard to put this program together with us, without our troops learning about these countries and building these wonderful displays the event could not have been possible!

Troops: 8, 15, 35, 57, 78, 84, 96, 137, 145, 149, 154, 162, 173, 181, 182, 236, 240, 242, 274, 285, 293, 302, 305, 327, 332, 373, 406, 437, 438, 445, 448, 450, 490, 469, 520, 522, 546, 559, 577, 601, 606, 625, 635, 638, 641, 661, 663, 668, 669, 692, 697, 716, 735, 762, 810, 829, 839, 842, 847, 872, 887, 889, 904, 925, 942, 954, 960, 965, 989, 991, 994, 999, 1014, 1015, 1022, 1024, 1028, 1048, 4841 and all the Juliette’s that worked as well.

Thank you to all the members of the committee and the service unit managers and leaders who put in countless hours of emailing, phone calls and work setting up, working the day of the event and tearing down afterward. Thanks also to all the volunteers we had from the Fresno Volunteer Center and those who came just to help out where ever they were needed. We know there are many more people who worked on this event and we appreciate everything you’ve done for us and we want to thank you too.

Continue to watch the website and check for emails about next year soon!

Visalia Troops Celebrate World Thinking Day!

On February 23, 2008 Service Unit #12 in Visalia hosted Thinking Day at the Visalia Elks Lodge. They started with a flag salute and Girl Scout Promise with a candle ceremony.

There were 60 girls that visited countries; Jamaica, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Australia, Japan and India. There was an international food table where each girl had the chance to sample foods from different countries. Girls also made a St. Patrick’s Day craft to take home.

The day concluded with a limbo contest.  The winner received a prize of a Beanie Baby Teddy Bear, Girl Scout note pad and Girl Scout pen.

The following troops participated from Service Unit 12: 57, 108,183, 242, 285, 590, 901 and 1009. Troops from Service Units 14 and 15 also joined; troop 441 and 700.
